The North Sea supports over 230 different species of fish, thousands upon thousands of seabirds, and an exciting variety of whales, dolphins and sharks!

The diversity of life in the North Sea results from the constant mixing of waters within the shallow regions. This mixing stirs up a rich supply of nutrients to nourish the abundant sea life in the North Sea’s shallow waters. As a result, the North Sea is home to a fantastic array of marine wildlife, from extensive beds of delicate brittlestars waving their fragile arms up into the water column to feed, to the hidden eyes of the camouflaged plaice glancing up from its seabed disguise, to pods of white beaked dolphins jumping acrobatically through the air.

Restoring the North Sea to its former glory
